Urban Outdoor Physical Activity Programmes (UCANACT) Kilkenny City – Exercise for Cancer Prevention

We at Kilkenny Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic are delighted to be involved with Kilkenny County Council, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, Kilkenny Sports Partnership, Trinity College Dublin and partners across Europe in a project, called “Urban Action for cancer prevention”.
This is an initiative whereby adult and senior citizens can part-take in physical activity within public urban green spaces to prevent cancer diseases and is piloting in Kilkenny.

To achieve this, our clinic is involved with the running of physical activity programmes in two outdoor locations in Kilkenny which are:
1. Newpark Marsh Park, Kilkenny
2. Goal Road Park, Kilkenny

Kilkenny County Council are recruiting 50 citizens aged 50 years or older from Kilkenny City, so if you would like to be involved in this project, you can find more details at UcanACT initiative

Participants will be asked to complete pre-exercise screening with physiotherapists from our clinic and Physiotherapy students from University of Limerick, at the start and at the end of the programme.

The physical activity programme will run twice weekly for 8-10 weeks in March and August 2024. Participants will be encouraged to become more physically active between the classes, and may have access to a mobile app. This app has been developed by University of Bologna in Italy to support  the exercises programme.

Our involvement is an exciting venture for us and we would encourage people to get involved. More imformation about the project is available read more
