Why Choose Physio-Led Pilates & Strength Classes?
Exercise is important. But how you exercise matters too.
We all know that staying active, building strength and maintaining mobility are important for our health. But if you’re returning to exercise, managing an injury, living with aches and pains, or simply unsure where to start, walking into a gym or exercise class can sometimes feel a little daunting.
That’s where physiotherapist-led exercise classes can offer something different.
At Kilkenny Physiotherapy Clinic, our Pilates, Strength and Gym classes are led by Chartered Physiotherapists who understand not only exercise, but also injury, pain, rehabilitation, movement and how the body adapts to exercise.
Our aim is simple: to help you move better, get stronger and exercise with confidence.
What makes a physio-led class different?
1. Exercise with clinical expertise
Physiotherapists are trained to assess movement, strength, mobility and physical function, as well as understanding injury and medical conditions that can affect exercise.
That means your instructor isn’t simply showing you an exercise — they understand why you’re doing it, what it should be working and how it can be adapted for you.
If you have a sore knee, previous back problem, shoulder injury, arthritis or another issue affecting your exercise, we can modify exercises while still helping you work towards getting stronger.
2. We can meet you at your level
One of the biggest barriers to exercise is feeling that you’re either “not fit enough” or “not strong enough” to join a class.
You don’t need to be.
Our classes are designed so exercises can be progressed or modified depending on your ability. Two people may be doing slightly different versions of the same exercise — and that’s perfectly OK.
The goal isn’t to keep up with the person beside you. The goal is to progress your own strength, mobility and confidence.
3. A bridge from physiotherapy to independent exercise
Finishing physiotherapy doesn’t necessarily mean your rehabilitation is finished.
For many people, the next step is continuing to build strength, capacity and confidence so they can return fully to normal life, sport, hobbies or the gym.
Our physio-led classes provide that important bridge between rehabilitation and long-term independent exercise.
4. Strength becomes increasingly important as we get older
Maintaining muscle strength is particularly important as we move through our 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.
Strength training can help us maintain our ability to do the things that matter in everyday life — getting up and down from a chair, climbing stairs, carrying shopping, gardening, walking, travelling and continuing to enjoy our hobbies.
And it’s never too late to start.
Our Over 50s Strength Classes are specifically designed to introduce strength training in a supportive, supervised environment, with exercises adapted to suit different abilities.
5. Pilates with a physiotherapy approach
Pilates can be a fantastic way to improve strength, mobility, balance, control and confidence with movement.
Having a physiotherapist leading the class means we can also take account of previous injuries, recurring pain or movement limitations and help you find an appropriate variation where needed.
Whether you’re completely new to Pilates or have been doing it for years, there is a place to start.
